Hi, I’m Abbey Simmons!
I’m a hairstylist born and raised in North Carolina with a deep love for the sun, the ocean, and creating a life that feels both meaningful and free. I graduated from Garner High School in 2014 without a set-in-stone plan, but I did know one thing: I wanted to wake up every day excited to go to work and to do something that brought joy not just to others, but to me, too.

I’d always been drawn to the beauty world, but never realized just how much creativity, connection, and freedom it could offer. I originally moved to Wilmington to study at Cape Fear Community College, but it quickly became clear that the numbers life wasn’t for me. I moved back to Raleigh, enrolled at Mitchell’s Hairstyling Academy, and found exactly what I’d been looking for.

As a stylist, I fell in love with the relationships, the energy, the ability to make someone feel confident and seen and maybe even change their day with something as simple as a haircut or color.

I opened my salon, a sunny, coastal-inspired space where natural, lived-in color and relaxed, effortless cuts take center stage.

Sonny Hair Co. is named with love after my Golden Retriever, Sonny, but also for the two biggest rays of sunshine in my life: my daughter, Sunday, and my husband, Michael. They remind me daily of what’s most important, family, warmth, and building a life that feels authentic.

When I’m not in the salon, you’ll probably find me at the beach or dreaming of it, squeezing in a hot yoga class, or hiking with my little family. 

My goal is simple: to create a space where you feel relaxed, beautiful, and like yourself, just with even better hair.
